Timber Transitions

The site was pretty much flat and the client wanted some elevation changes throughout the design. 6x6 rough sawn fir raised planters were the final choice. We mixed multiple planters at different heights into the patios and entertaining areas. A privacy screen made of the same lumber as well as two-frosted glass panels was incorporated into the planter beside the new composite deck. This helps buffer the views of the public walkway beside the yard.

An outdoor kitchen kit was installed on the west side of the deck and modern contemporary pergola was placed above it. This pergola provides shelving between the posts for additional storage. A frosted acrylic roof was installed above the kitchen so it can be used in all elements. A second pergola was installed over the dining area and is equipped with string lighting and gas heaters.

The patios were created with natural square cut flagstone and are divided by stepping stone pathways that traverse through beds of granite riverstone. Two Basalt water columns provide some soothing white noise for users walking by as well as those gathered around the steel fire pit.

The existing shed now sits at the rear of the yard screened by a rough sawn fir privacy screen. It houses all the equipment for the water feature, stereo, irrigation, heaters and landscape lighting.
