This fourth floor terrace was previously monochrome and lifeless – covered entirely by concrete slab pavers and lacking privacy. The client hoped for a space that could allow for a hot tub, sun tanning, frequent entertaining and dining with small groups, and enjoying the views of downtown Waterloo. The dream for a rooftop garden was brought to life by constructing deck panels integrated with built-in raised planters, staggered in height from 12″ to 18″ off grade. Synthetic turf was installed to give the illusion of a lawn on the balcony and help soften all the wood structures. Lastly, a tightly spaced cedar pergola was constructed to ensure privacy and to provide shelter for the new hot tub.
