Industrial Modern

The site was an odd shaped pie lot that sloped down towards the house and had some grading limit setbacks. These determined the angled shape of the concrete patios. A random swirl finish was used to mirror the wood grain in the timber walls.

Client didn’t want a standard retaining wall – used contrasting materials – Different sizes of gabion baskets filled with granite river stone tied into 6x6 rough sawn cedar timber walls. The timber walls are parallel with the pool and the gabion baskets allow the wall to jog in and out giving it a new shape. A larger section of the gabion provides a backdrop to the sun-tanning patio. All walls are all illuminated with landscape lighting.

The pergola is a mix of industrial and modern design. The powder coated steel posts & purlins compliment the steel gabion baskets. The rough sawn fir timber beams and privacy screen compliment the timber retaining walls. A ShadeFX canopy is proposed for installation on the pergola to help block out the hot afternoon sun.

A composite deck is proposed under the pergola to provide an area for barbecuing and dining. The decking material is continued on the raised boardwalk on the backside of the pool. Raising this platform provides an opportunity for landscape lighting underneath to illuminate the low growing groundcover behind it.

The gardens are a mix of meadow & woodland plants that will attract pollinators. The gardens blend into the existing forest behind the site. There were some mature trees on the property that needed to be transplanted, adding to the challenging site.
