The clients of this project sought an outdoor living extension that provided lots of light and extra space and had to blend in with the house and offer a sense of style and quality.
Stainless steel posts that are incorporated into the new composite deck as well as hidden beams support the modern contemporary flat EPDM roof and aluminum fascia. The entertainment wall has a recessed television with a food truck style-rolling door to protect it from the elements. This wall was created with a stained Poplar tongue and groove material that blends seamlessly into the ceiling.
A natural gas fireplace is also incorporated into the space and is clad in natural granite. For privacy two manually retractable screens were installed on both exposed sides, as well as, a 10mm polished edge, acid etched glass panel. The panel is also illuminated with L.E.D’s and is connected with the ceiling Hue pot lights and all controlled via smart phone.
A composite outdoor buffet/kitchen area equipped with a mini fridge and a custom cabinet was installed between the deck and the new tinted concrete patio. This location was chosen to delineate the two spaces but also maintain a connection between them. The granite counter top can be used from both spaces and also ties in the fireplace. The client says its great for extra seating during the big games too. An L.E.D. strip light was installed on the underside of the counter top to provide additional light into the dining area. The existing hot tub was relocated beside the dining area and is buffered with a rough sawn Fir privacy screen. While each of these 3 outdoor rooms feels separate while in them, there is a seamless transition between them.
