“Natural materials, in a bold, contemporary design” – was the design brief for this Elmira couple's flagstone patio. Required landscape elements included comfortable seating, dining, flexible shade at all times of day, music, and lighting for evening entertaining. An awkward slope, broken up patio, and decaying steps were all to be replaced. All natural stonework was selected to harmonize with the century brick home. A sinuous dry stack stone wall nestles next to an oversize flagstone patio. Water spills from a sharply curved section of the wall, from 2 stainless steel troughs into a bed of black beach pebbles. Where the stack stone wall flanks back toward the house, natural cut stone steps descend from an oversize stepping stone walkway.
